Hello Everyone page 1

Well, it has been a few years since I have been involved in Traveller, and boy did I miss it! I was part of it in the 80's, having coproduced a small paper fanzine (Between Worlds), and then just played and wrote my own material until 98.

You see, in 98, I moved to Pittsburgh and lost all my gaming partners, and found a dearth of gamers up there. So, pen and paper gaming dropped to the wayside, and I started to get involved with online gaming (Ultima Online).

Now, I am back in Tampa, FL, and no longer playing much UO, and getting back into writing and Traveller. Goddess, I have missed so much! I feel lost looking at all your posts about what's going on.....

Oh well, I am glad to be back at it, and I hope to begin producing in the near future material for you to use in your gaming.

Hello again!

Welcome back! :D

I've said before the sheer volume of posts here is getting to the point that new citizens must find it all a bit overwhelming. Even when I signed up it took me a good week of solid evenings to read them all and I can't imagine anyone doing that at this point, it'd take forever smile.gif

So let me do point out the fact that Hunter has done an excellent job of breaking it all into well organized categories to ease finding your interest niche(s) and there is a great search engine built into the site that depending on your google-fu can help narrow down topics of special interest.

So jump right in, I think we all look forward to another old hand weighing in with bits of knowledge and speculation.

Thanks. I have been perusing the boards, and they are very well set up! I can find just about anything I look for here, with ease.

I do look forward to contributing my bit of "oldtimer" knowledge, but I also anticipate lots of good stuff from the rest of you. I've been out of it for 5 years, so my data is dated, the blade is a bit rusty.

Feel free to let me know when I am being an idiot tongue.gif , I may ask some dumb questions, but please remember that most of what has gone on with Traveller is foreign to me. When I left, I was rocking and rolling with TNE. Then, I read that T4 came out, but never bought it. I liked TNE, so I am a bit behind ya'll.

I think I may stay with TNE, but we'll see.

I'll just enjoy the ride for now!

As for you "being an idiot," to keep that to a minimum, there are a few guidelines you should follow:

1. Never ask a Zhodani what's "on their minds." Asking what's IN their minds is acceptable.

2. Miss Manners does not approve of the mooning of Vargr.

3. When playing poker with an Aslan male, make sure they win.

4. Despite the views of a few radicals in the whole, it is not the best of ideas to greet all Solomani with the "Siege Heil" salute.

5. Virus is NOT your friend. Ever.

6. When fuel flow is on "runaway" mode, Mr. Fusion Power Plant is NOT our friend.

7. The FGMP weapon platform series are not classified as "hunting weapons." Ignore what the inhabitants of Efate say.

And the most Wrong move of all:

8. It will raise more than a few eyebrows if one asks a K'kree if "A-1" is an appropriate sauce for their steak.

I hope this helps. Anyway, welcome to the group!

Gah, Grendel T. Troll! I laughed so hard at your "suggestions" that I just spit my morning coffiene onto my 'puter display. Thanks alot

Heh! Those are good! I will have to remember them.

About T20, I guess I'll have to look into that. I don't know much about it.

I am really dissappointed. Here I was all setup. Had the Tree Rat cornered with my pet Burovarg, had the safety off the FGMP-15, had the stove warmed up for some Tree Rat stew, etc.

Grendal just takes the fun out of everything ;)

Grendal just takes the fun out of everything Those rules don't apply to folks from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana or Alabama, Plop. Especially the restrictions on huntin' with an FGMP or fishin' with explosives.

[/QB]This is not as bad as it sounds. If the Aslan lacks 'Independence' then you can still lose to him while cleaning him out of all available funds. Just remember to disappear REAL GOOD afterwards! graemlins/file_21.gif

Stop that! Your Model 2/bis can only handle no more than 12.76ml of java IN ITS LIFE! One more spittle like that.... well....I hope you have them jump coordinates pre-computed......

About T20, I guess I'll have to look into that. I don't know much about it. What was pretty much done was that the QLI publishing monkeys took the CLASSIC rules, converted them to WotC's D20 system, kidnapped Marc W. Miller, forced him to endorse it upon pain of having his eyebrows crocheted and enslaving him to a lifetime of teaching Home Economics to 150kg+ women (The humiliation was unbearable. He had to sign), and released it upon the hapless public - who haven't seen a decent sci-fi game published since.....well, Traveller.

Hope this helps.

Also there is a free t20 mini-campaign (http://www.travellerrpg.com/cgi-bin/catalog/pview.pl?action=view&stocknum=elib0001&h=3&s=t) and a mini-adventure (http://www.travellerrpg.com/cgi-bin/catalog/pview.pl?action=view&stocknum=elib0002&h=3&s=t) available for download as well.

Besides T20 and GURPS Traveller... you havn't missed all that much.. smile.gif

Since you're big on TNE you might want to check that forum out for teasers as to whats going to be included in Martin J Dougherty's TNE 1248 sourcebook - if he ever gets the d*mn thing written tongue.gif
