Wanted: online Traveller summary page 1

This is quite mind-boggling - I can't seem to find a website that has a decent, one-page HTML introduction to the Traveller RPG setting (I wanted to send a link to someone to introduce them to the game).

The FFE site contains almost no information about the game, I can't find anything along these lines on the QLI site... SJG's blurb (http://www.sjgames.com/gurps/traveller/) is the best I could find.

I'm not after PDFs or rules (like T20 Lite) or anything - just an accessible, concise, readable summary of the game's setting ON A WEBSITE (ie NOT A BOOK!!!) that covers all the main points (i.e. star-spanning empire, many alien races, jump drive, worlds with their own TLs, etc etc) that a non-roleplayer can get their head around.

I'm hoping my google-fu has momentarily failed me and that surely such a beast exists somewhere - so does anyone know a good summary?

EDIT: made it even more clear that I was looking for a webpage here, since people seem to be missing this... ;)

You'll note I said website, not book. smile.gif

The sort of thing you'd show a person who was not a roleplayer who'd ask "so, what's this Traveller thing about"? and who doesn't have sufficient attention span and/or interest to wade through pages and pages of explanation.

LBB-0 fo what is role playing and basics yes maby pages 6-15 of the colected aliens books for basic race/uinervice feal or the MT Imperial Encycopedia also gives a good starting point for game feal but lacks the "what is role-playing" bits another good resorce along the lines as the MT Imperial Encycopedia is the first 80 pages of Gurps Traveller (if you have got it) and also has the advantge of a cupple of pages on campain/adventure types

I kinda remembered that AFTER I posted, so I sorta slunk back into the shadows.

"Hi. I'm SanDragon. And I'm an idiot-savant."

I know that al the resorces I listed in my eirler post where all hard copy but their is most defentaly some Evil Skumm out their who has made scaned copies of these fine books and is banding them about cheating the orignial authors and publishers of their due income but I bleave that the good people who brought us them may (I sincerily hope)forgive you this one time if you only download what you must and ereace them once your done. also Drive Through RPG has legal copys of the MT Imperial Encycopedia (and the other MT core books) for only US$10 each, most of the rest of the MT range is also available their for a fair price compeared to what you would pay on the colectors marcket or for a new store bourght hardcopy book.

a) No, I will not download an illegal scan of an RPG. Don't ever suggest that (especially given that Hunter gets rather pissed off whenever anyone does so here).

b) you're evidently still not reading what I said. I wanted a webpage that had a summary of Traveller on it. Not a PDF, not a scan, not anything you can buy, not a hardcopy, just a webpage, written in HTML that I can point people to in order to say "this is Traveller". This is surely not a difficult concept to grasp is it??

Here's two of the docs I often use:
Introduction to The Traveller Adventure - Traveller Introduction (http://www.freelancetraveller.com/features/advents/ttaintro/travintro.html)*

The Foundational Description (http://traveller.downport.com/foundation.shtml) from this page here (http://traveller.downport.com/understanding.shtml).
the next two on that page while useful aren't IMO what you're looking for

Hope this helps,
Casey (long day, tired brain)

*had wrong doc linked earlier, the "Introduction to The Traveller Adventure - Background" (http://www.freelancetraveller.com/features/advents/ttaintro/bkgd.html) document which is more specific to the adventure in question not Traveller in general :(

Finally! That's just what I was looking for.

I knew something like that must exist out there somewhere. Thanks, Casey! :D

Just thought I'd add a couple of links to things that currently are unaccessible from the FFE website, but are indeed there:

What is Traveller? (http://www.farfuture.net/whatis.html)
Ziru Sirka (http://www.farfuture.net/ziru_sirka.html)

From the BITS website:
http://www.asbf58.dsl.pipex.com/BITS_website/

Also, from my Fourth Imperium site (though it is a bit specific to the milieu):
http://www.geocities.com/flynnwd/trav/4I_intro.html

Not as good as most put out here, and it's a PDF instead of a html page, but it's yet another view on how to put one of these together.

Enjoy,
Flynn
