Keep on Kipling! page 1

Seems that Rudyad Kipling has quite a following amongst this list - and rightly so!

Question, have any of you tried adapting his stories as an adventure? If so which ones?

For myself I did do one adventure based on 'The man who would be king" where a member of the party is mistaken by TL2 society for a reincaration of their diety (actually that wasn't entirely what the original Kipling story was about but it did cut to the main point of the story). Needless to say it did rather end in tears.....

I also did "The Old Men at Pevensey" from 'Puck of Pook's Hill' and have used on the quote "Write to any man that all is betrayed and even the Pope himself will ssleep uneasy" on more than one occation an in different campaign settings to good effect.

Anyone tried any other Kipling peices and if so, which ones?

Also, anyone tried any of the Rider Haggard stuff particularly the Hunter Quartermain stuff?

Yes, I know that none of this stuff is PC, but it was what I was brought up reading.

I have allways wanted to use one of the obscure Haggards. I have used a couple of Dashiell Hammetts, including "The Gutting of Coufingal" and "The Girl With Silver Eyes."

I had the "Mary Gloster" blind jump out into a rift with the computer replaying the captain's wife's voice for him as the air ran out - playing it from the moment that they met - all the way through to the end then repeat. Only got through a tiny fraction before he died.

At a later stage the players misjumped out and ended up close to the Mary Gloster - Used spare fuel to survive and later went back and salvaged it.

Once it was powered back up they had a wonderful fully equiped merchant so they all moved aboard and sold their old ship.

The intercoms were never really fixed but would occassionally "fade" in with a female voice talking to someone! They had a ghost ship.

It took them forever to find out what was wrong - they ended up turning a passenger in for being an unmarked Psi once (they were convinced it was his fault), they had to drop their passenger cost to counter their rep (as a haunted ship).

When they eventually found out, they loved it - if only because the "Mary" had been dropping in and out of their consciousness for so long.

When they did the research later (ie I gave them a copy of the Poem to read) there was much head slapping.
